Paula Monks, gifted
sometimes pathos, to her songs. She has played in the Washington/Baltimore metro areas for
several years, at venues as diverse as Johns Hopkins University folk music concerts to
area folk music festivals. Paula currently appears regularly with drummer, Ron Goad, and
other artists, at Ben's Whole Hog Barbecue in Manassas, the Tortilla Factory in
Herndon, and Jammin' Java in Vienna. Her repertoire includes her original songs and
those of many other artists. Paula also appears at public and private area events. She
plans to record a CD of original songs written by herself and others. Paula's goal is
to become a top-rate performer and to reach a wider audience.
A singer for as long as she can remember, Paula decided to write her own songs about
ten years ago, and "just sat down and did it." She says her "songs come
from a magic place inside," and she feels their purpose is for her to share some of
the wisdom gathered from her life. Her philosophy of accepting oneself, and being able to
laugh about it is reflected in many of her wittier selections.
Paula graduated as a music-major from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore. She
has played the guitar from the age of twelve. Paula and her family live in Vienna,
Virginia. --Audrey Mercer, writer for Music by Anthem
