Who is Music by Anthem?

Chelle
Chelle Fulk, owner and operator of Music by Anthem, is a multi-talented, highly versatile musician. Although Chelle refers to herself as a "fiddlist" -- part fiddler, part violinist -- she is also an accomplished violist and singer, and loves playing the electric 5-string fiddle. She entertains instrumentally or vocally at nearly all of her company's performances. She especially loves playing for dancers, singing, and recording. Her CDs include "Island Time", "His Harp's Desire", and several works-in-progress.

Chelle officially founded Music by Anthem in 1994, having formed its genesis with the Fauquier String Quartet in high school. After concentrating on the viola during college, she combined her love of music with her love of running businesses, and developed a musical organization capable of performing in a wide range of venues, from very intimate settings to large celebrations. She hired professional musicians whose versatility with various musical styles and instruments complemented each other, and whose interests enabled the company to bring about its tremendous repertoire. Her interest in Celtic music has led her to research, and share with audiences, the folklore of the British Isles, adding another dimension to her performances. She actively explores new musical interests, and looks for opportunities to expand Anthem's services.

Her wide-ranging interests encompass art in the romantic realism style, color photography, travel, reading science fiction, philosophy, hiking, and outdoor sports. She also has a passion for unusual instruments, and, like most musicians, is prone to spend the rent money on musical toys.

Amy Domingues began her cello studies at the age of 9. In addition to studying with National Symphony cellist David Teie, Amy was a member of the National Symphony Young Apprentice program from 1989-91. In 1995, she graduated cum laude from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree. Amy was principal cellist for the James Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Shenandoah Philharmonic from 1992-94, and a regular member of the Rockbridge Symphony in Lexington, VA. In addition to her orchestral work, Amy is currently involved with the Anthem String Quartet and several freelance projects.

Janet Lewis-Greene, violinist, Anthem String Quartet, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and American Studies from Mary Washington College and later studied with Berl Senofsky at the Peabody Conservatory.  She has played with a number of Washington, D.C. area orchestras including the Alexandria Symphony, the McLean Symphony, and the Prince George's Philharmonic.  In addition to her work with the Anthem String Quartet, Janet teaches privately and is the "fiddler-in-residence" at the semi-annual Equine Rescue League Open House in Leesburg, Virginia.  She has performed with Anthem since 1996.

Doug
Doug Carpenter, violinist and co-founder of the Anthem String Quartet, currently serves as the concertmaster for the Reston Chamber Orchestra and has been a 1st violinist for the McLean Symphony for the past 13 years. Doug has also performed with several other area orchestras including: the Millbrook Orchestra, Prince George's Philharmonic, IMF Orchestra and the Loudoun Symphony. He also enjoys playing with musical theater groups with over 20 musicals to his credit. Doug studied violin under Dr. Harold Byer of the Cincinnati Symphony.

Laura
Laura DeNardis is a versatile guitarist, singer, and mandolin player. She plays with Chelle in a variety of genres, from classical to Celtic to the Beatles.... Laura is hard at work on her Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies at Virginia Tech. Her particular interest is the history of technology. "It's tough," she says, "but worth the hard work."

Laura has been performing with Music by Anthem since mid-2000. An excellent guitarist, specializing in classical, Celtic, and rock musical styles, Laura began playing at age 7. She fell in love with it, and has played ever since.

Sherry
Sherry has been Music by Anthem's Studio Manager since 1989.  What she lacks in communication skills she makes up for in attitude.  Her favorite instrument is the violin, primarily because she likes the fit of the case when the instrument has gone out to play.

Silver
Welcome QuickSilver, the newest addition to the Music by Anthem team! A lyric soprano with Russian blood, Silver was taken in off the streets and is now in training to be Miss Sherry's understudy. But, much like the story of Christine and Carlotta, the diva Sherry is not yet ready to relinquish center stage. For more cute kitty photos, click here.
